N.J. boy's organs donated to save other children

Ten-year-old Christopher D'Amico Jr. died Wednesday from a head injury after he was struck by the boat rented by his father.

The family of 10-year-old Christopher D'Amico Jr., who died in a boating accident Wednesday, said it will donate the boy's organs to save other children's lives in his honor.

In a Facebook post, the boy's mother, Laura Tyrpak D'Amico, of Mount Arlington, in Morris County, New Jersey, called the boy a "hero."

"Christopher's gifts...his heart valves will save up to 5 children live..his humerus bone will save a 7 year old girl dying of cancer in south Jersey...his eyes will help 2 blind children see...," she wrote.

According to NJ.com, the boy died Wednesday from a head injury that occurred when a he was hit by a rental pontoon boat driven by his father, Christopher D'Amico.

Following the incident, the 10-year-old was flown by helicopter to Morristown Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, NJ.com reports.

The cause of the accident is currently under investigation. 

The boy's family has set up a GoFundMe page to help cover funeral expenses.
