Fall 5k race begins and ends at Eastern State Penitentiary

Eastern State Penitentiary on Fairmount Avenue.

The 19th annual Great Eastern State Breakout Race will take place on Oct. 1. Registration is currently open, offering a $10 discount through Aug. 31.

The 5k race begins and ends at Eastern State Penitentiary in Fairmount. In-between, the course winds through the neighborhood and Girard College.

Once runners cross the finish line, a post-race breakfast including yogurt, bagels, cereal bars and coffee will be available. Runners can show their bibs at Fairmount restaurants to receive brunch discounts. 

Awards in the 5k will be presented to the top three male and female overall winners, the top three teams and the top three male and female finishers in various age groups.

If kids want to join in on race day, they can participate in a fun run around Eastern State at 9:15 a.m with $12 registration.

Race day check-in begins at 7:15 a.m, with the 5k taking off at 8:30 a.m.
