The superintendent of the Camden public schools, Paymon Rouhanifard announced the donation of $250,000 to Sharp School teachers Wednesday morning on their first day back. Students return next week, when an online site that could double the donation goes live.

A $250,000 donation that could double in impact is available for every school in Camden via a donation by the founders of an educational publishing house.

DonorsChoose.org, an online funding tool, will allow teachers to make requests for materials and projects and have the donation’s seed money doubled by additional contributors.

City teachers are encouraged to post projects on DonorChoose totaling $1,000 or less.

Once half the total cost of the project is secured, the donation will pay off the remaining balance.

That means the Double Your Impact Match Offer can provide total $500,000 in new resources.

Additionally, Townsend Press founders John Langan and Judith Nadell are donating $50,000 to update the library at MetEast, one of the city’s magnet high schools.

The publisher is based in West Berlin, Camden County.

“Because of the Langans’ generosity, thousands of Camden students will be able to innovative with more technology, create with more art supplies, and experience more hands-on learning opportunities,” said Superintendent Paymon Rouhanifard.

“I am deeply grateful for their support, and I encourage our teachers to begin brainstorming how they can make the most of this extraordinary gift.”

The superintendent even suggested papal pilgrims flocking through Camden during Pope Francis’ upcoming visit make donations to the projects.

The projects will go live online on Sept. 8 at donorschoose.org/camden2015.
