Ammonia leak contained in Frankford

Morning commuters should expect traffic delays

Morning commuters should expect traffic delays in the Frankford and Tacony sections of the city after an ammonia leak Wednesday morning.

The leak reportedly stemmed from inside the Amuneal Manufacturing Corp. at Duffield and Foulkrod streets, NBC 10 reported from the scene.

Hazmat crews responded to the area at around 5 a.m., and by 7 a.m., the leak was contained.

Officials said the leak did not affect the food manufacturing area of the Dietz & Watson facility in the 5700 block of Tacony St., and no injuries were reported, although traffic delays in the area are expected during the morning commute.

NBC 10 crews at the scene Wednesday morning said residents were waking up to the smell of fumes, but officials say there was no threat to the public. The cause is under investigation.
