Law enforcement officials have arrested a 19-year-old man for the Oct. 16 murder of 14-year-old Duval DeShields, according to Philadelphia police.

The shooting occurred Monday, Oct. 12, at about 8:40 p.m. on the 1200 block of N. 10th St., near Girard Avenue.

That evening, officers arrived on scene to find DeShields, of the 2600 block of Jessup Street, suffering from a gunshot wound to his head, police said.

Officers placed DeShields inside their vehicle and transported him to Hahnemann University Hospital, where he was listed in extremely critical condition. Duval died of his injuries on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 5 p.m.

While police said the investigation is ongoing, the shooting appears to have been sparked by an argument.
