Artists invited to find inspiration from Philadelphia's Magic Gardens

Draw, paint, photograph the space while instructors offer guidance

A visitor stands in awe of Isaiah Zagar’s artistic wonderland, Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens, located on South Street. The local artist uses ceramic tile, mirrors and found objects to create colorful and unusual mosaic murals.

Philadelphia's Magic Gardens will host a new event called "The Museum as Muse" for adult artists of all levels.

On select Thursdays, artists are invited to draw, paint or photograph the mosaic-covered space. Attendees will even have access to the fully-mosaicked basement, which is not normally open to the public.

Artists also can find inspiration from nude figure models, who will pose in the garden to be sketched.

During the art-making session, there will be instructors on-hand to offer guidance and critiques.

Basic art materials will be provided but attendees are encouraged to bring their own. Just check the guidelines before heading in.

Each Museum as Muse event is $20, with the first taking place on Thursday, May 18. Philadelphia's Magic Gardens members can attend for free.
