A 13-year-old boy severed his right leg Wednesday after he tried to jump on a moving CSX train in Philadelphia and missed, according to police.

Authorities said the train was riding along Conrail-owned tracks near the 3600 block of Castor Ave. in Frankford when the incident happened just after 5 p.m.

The teen was transported to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children, where he was in critical condition, police said.

The train had stopped and was still on the scene Wednesday evening, police said.

The Trenton line of SEPTA's Regional Rail was shut down in both directions during a police investigation, but service had resumed by 6:30 p.m., according to multiple reports.

The police department could not be immediately reached for comment.
