Center City road closures to impact motorists throughout weekend

Traffic was congested in many areas of Center City, Tuesday, Nov. 1, as SEPTA transit workers went on strike.

Heading into Center City over the weekend? Plan ahead. Major roadways have been shut down for construction projects that will impact commuters from Saturday until Sunday night, the mayor's office announced.

Much of the construction happened from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday but will continue throughout the weekend, including the erection of a tower crane that will keep South Broad Street from Locust to Walnut streets closed until 8 p.m. Sunday.

Construction has also closed the 2100 block of Lombard Street starting at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, though it's not clear when construction to scheduled to be completed.

On Sunday, 16th street from Chestnut to Sansom streets will be closed from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. Additionally, Arch Street, from 18th to 19th streets, will experience a lane closure from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m.
