Two rock gods converged on Camden Wednesday night. Marilyn Manson, who played the area twice in the past two years — headlining "The Pale Emperor" tour and co-headlining "The End Times" tour with The Smashing Pumpkins — was just as theatrical and powerful as ever. Amidst heavy fog and red lights, Manson lurched around the stage, commanding the crowd in a way only he could. There was Bible-burning, stiltwalking, a rifle/microphone stand and an encore that included a sea of 666 Manson dollar confetti covering the floors of the BB&T Pavilion as the antichrist superstar surfed through the crowd.
As the night drew darker and hotter, video images of burning mannequins flashed across the stage, presaging the appearance of Slipknot. Frontman Corey Taylor recently had neck surgery but didn’t let that stop him from rocking among the crowd. Equally impressive were two of the three percussionists, who played drums on hydraulic risers that moved throughout the set. Slipknot, playing tracks from its five studio albums, did not disappoint.
