Police: Construction worker dies after falling into Delaware River

Victim disappeared from worksite at Pier 78

Philadelphia police are investigating to determine what caused a construction worker to fatally fall into the Delaware River on Thursday after briefly disappearing from a job site at Pier 78.

Authorities responded to the scene after 8:30 p.m. when they were notified of an incident involving a construction worker, according to The Associated Press.

Investigators say the victim, who has not been identified, disappeared from the job site and his hard hat was later found floating in the water. His car was parked nearby.

The victim was eventually discovered by a police marine unit at around 9:30 p.m. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
