Driver killed following shooting on South Jersey highway

Police are investigating a shooting that left one driver dead on a South Jersey highway Saturday.

The New Jersey State Police said the shooting occurred around 2:30 a.m. on the southbound lanes of Route 42 near exit 14 in Runnemede Borough, Camden County.

Officers responded to the scene and discovered a white Ford Fusion had crashed off the road. The car had been hit with several gunshots. The driver, who has not been identified, was transported to Cooper University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities have learned that an unknown vehicle pulled alongside the victim's car. The gunman in that vehicle opened fire, causing the victim to lose control.
