Driver crashes into tractor-trailer after being shot in Hunting Park

A man is in critical condition after he was shot while sitting in his vehicle and then crashed into a parked tractor-trailer early Wednesday morning, NBC10 reports.

The incident started around 2:30 a.m. at Green and Manheim streets in Hunting Park.

Police say the 47-year-old driver was shot several times while sitting in his SUV. He then drove away but crashed head-on into a parked tractor-trailer at Germantown Avenue and Pike Street shortly after.

"For several minutes, he was actually trapped in the vehicle from the auto accident," Chief Inspector Scott Small told NBC10. "His legs and lower extremities were trapped and crushed inside of the vehicle. Medics used the Jaws of Life."

The man is in critical condition at Temple University Hospital.

According to investigators, 12 bags of crack cocaine were found in the passenger seat of the SUV, suggesting the incident may be a possible drug-related shooting.

The incident remains under investigation.
