Eagles practice notes, August 13, 2015: Eric Rowe flashes

Eric Rowe made some impressive plays today.

It was a short practice today, which makes sense considering we're in day three of a four-day stretch of practices without a day off. Additionally, the Eagles practiced on the dreaded "far left" field, which is the worst for access. Therefore, notes are somewhat scarce today, but here's what I saw:

• During one-on-ones today, Eric Rowe looked really good on three consecutive reps:

  1. Rep 1: Pass breakup on what was sort of a seam route.
  2. Rep 2: He jammed a receiver at the line of scrimmage, who took at least two or three seconds to get into his route. The quarterback completed a short pass, but in reality, he would have immediately come off that receiver and looked to his next progression in a real game setting.
  3. Rep 3: Deep ball to Riley Cooper that Rowe picked.

Very encouraging series for him.

• Yesterday, I wrote at length about how I felt that Sam Bradford has barely moved throughout OTAs, minicamp, and training camp, and when he has, he hasn't looked very agile. Today he ran for the second time in 18 practices. A number of reporters noted it:

Unfortunately, I missed the run itself, as a wall of Eagles players got in my way. However, I did catch Bradford's run celebration. Bradford did three consecutive flips, hurdled the goal post, ripped off his knee brace, and made me eat it. I can confirm that it was sweaty and gross.

• Darren Sproles absolutely juked Marcus Smith out of his jock on a kick return. That's not to criticize Smith. Anyone would have looked foolish on Sproles' move. We've noted at length in these notes posts that Jordan Matthews, Nelson Agholor and Josh Huff have all been very active catching passes. However, I don't think anyone has caught more balls this camp than Sproles.

• Players who did not practice today: Kiko Alonso, DeMarco Murray, Mychal Kendricks, Zach Ertz, DeMeco Ryans, Bryan Braman, and shocker... Earl Wolff. That would be four starters.

• RG update! Here's who has worked with the ones each day of camp so far at RG:

  1. Aug 2: Matt Tobin
  2. Aug 3: Andrew Gardner
  3. Aug 4: Matt Tobin
  4. Aug 6: John Moffitt
  5. Aug 7: Andrew Gardner
  6. Aug 8: Julian Vandervelde
  7. Aug 9: Julian Vandervelde
  8. Aug 11: John Moffitt
  9. Aug 12: Andrew Gardner
  10. Aug 13: Andrew Gardner

Here's a helpful chart to show you how many times each player has gotten first-team reps:

RG competition

It looks like Gardner is beginning to take a lead here. Matt Tobin was the favorite heading into camp to land the starting job at RG, but he hasn't taken first team reps in seven straight practices.

• I wonder if DeMarco Murray thought this was funny.
