Eighth-grader charged in stabbing with scissors at Philly middle school

14-year-old victim stabbed during fight at Cooke Elementary School in the Logan section of Philadelphia

An eighth-grade female student has been charged in the stabbing of a 14-year-old classmate during a fight Tuesday morning at Cooke Elementary School in the Logan section of Philadelphia.

According to authorities, the student has been charged as a juvenile with aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person and related charges, according to 6 ABC.

The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. at the middle-school located on the 1300 block of West Loudon Street. A Philadelphia School District spokesman said the defendant and the 14-year-old victim had a history of animosity that led to Tuesday's confrontation before the start of morning classes.

Police said the two girls got into a scuffle in a third-floor hallway and the defendant, not identified because of her age, stabbed the victim in the arm and shoulder with a pair of scissors.

School officials were not immediately certain whether the student picked up the scissors at school or brought them from home.

The victim, who was conscious when transported to Einstein Medical Center, was treated for what officials described as non-life-threatening injuries.
