Families invited to Storybook Weekend at Sister Cities Park

Join the free outdoor festival that celebrates reading

The first Storybook Weekend will take place at Sister Cities Park on May 6-7. At the free outdoor festival, there will be activities for children and their families from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Every 30 minutes, there will be a group reading session. Children can listen as local authors, librarians and community members read favorite books aloud.

Families can also sign up for library cards at the Free Library of Philadelphia's on-site Book Bike, or donate gently used books. The Book Bike program is geared toward toddlers and preschoolers.

While the festival is mainly a celebration of reading, there are other activities for attendees. There will be musical entertainment, a magician, make-and-take crafts, face painting and balloon art.

Attendees on Sunday, May 7 can also see inside a real Philadelphia fire truck.

Through the summer, Sister Cities Park will have a reading area for children with kid-sized chairs.
