Jamie Brewer arrives at the 66th Primetime Emmy Awards at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live on Monday, Aug. 25, 2014, in Los Angeles.

Jamie Brewer, who has had a recurring role in "American Horror Story" since 2011, became the first model with Down syndrome to walk the runway during New York's Fashion Week on Thursday.

The 30-year-old actress and advocate for people with disabilities modeled an original design by Carrie Hammer as part of Hammer's "Role Models Not Runway Models" campaign.

"I'm advocating for many other people with my time here [at Fashion Week]," Brewer told People.com. "And I'm sure they'll agree with me: Listen to your own heart. We are one and the same. For her first show, Hammer invited her friend, Danielle Sheypuk, who uses a wheelchair, to be a model.
