Summer Recess concert featuring Yasiin Bey, Philly Freeway canceled

The rare appearance by the artist formerly known as Mos Def is no longer

UPDATE June 29: The Summer Recess concert scheduled for Saturday, July 25 has been canceled. Ticket holders will be given a full refund.

Yasiin Bey, the MC and actor formerly known as Mos Def, is making a rare appearance Saturday, July 25 at Union Transfer. Philly native and social media influencer Freeway will host Bey in the inaugural Summer Recess concert. Bey and Freeway are expected to perform for about 1,200 fans in the intimate venue.

Summer Recess is a new concert series presented by Little Giant Creative. It aims to quench Philly's thirst for genuine hip-hop music and to bring together diverse, seemingly disparate acts from within the genre.

"Philly is home, so coming back to host Summer Recess is an honor,” said Freeway in a statement. “With Yasiin Bey headlining, we’re giving Philadelphia – especially the younger generation – a taste of pure hip-hop.”

Tickets go on sale Monday, June 22 at noon. The first 200 tickets purchased online will cost $25; the remaining advanced tickets will cost $30 ($35 if purchased day of.) Two hundred tickets will be sold at various Villa locations for $30 with a waived transaction fee.
