Morris Arboretum's popular summer display Garden Railway is returning for its 18th year. The attraction features a series of trains, tracks and buildings in miniature, all made out of natural materials like sticks, stones, flowers and leaves.
This year's theme is "Art & Architecture," meaning visitors will see mini versions of iconic Philadelphia landmarks as well as other architectural marvels from around the world. Recreations of sculptures by Rodin and Claes Oldenburg will be featured alongside Frank Lloyd Wright's "Falling Waters" and Thomas Jefferson's Monticello. An Independence Hall made with pine cone seeds and acorns will be there, too.
Train lovers will find a quarter mile of track running through the natural display, including seven loops and tunnels, 15 different rail lines, two cable cars and nine bridges. Mini rivers and proportioned landscaping complete the scenes.
The Garden Railway Grand Opening celebration, free with admission, takes place Saturday, May 23, from 1-3 p.m. and includes a make-and-take craft and free ice cream for kids.
