George R.R. Martin was bummed that the Eagles won

In addition to finishing up The Winds of Winter, George R.R. Martin updates a blog (despite what he calls it) where he keeps fans abreast of Game of Thrones news as well as his other projects and interests. One of those interests is football, specifically the New York Jets. Once you are aware of Martin’s football fandom, it’s difficult not to make some connections to the subject matter of his novels.

The award-winning fantasy writer is such a big fan of “Gang Green” that he showed up at the team’s training camp in August. On the same day GOT won the Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series, Martin’s favorite football team dropped their first game of the season to your Philadelphia Eagles. And he began the post that recapped the game with, “Life is meaningless and full of pain.” Here is more:

The first half, though... the D played tough throughout, but the O was horrible for the whole first half. Three and out, three and out, three and out, three and out. The running game was going nowhere, and while Fitz was completing a lot of passes, they were all to receivers behind the line of scrimmage, who would then immediately be tackled for no game. VERY conservative play-calling.

In that passage, GRRM sort of sounds like @FakeWIPCaller. As an Eagles fan, I feel his pain. Ryan Fitzpatrick might not be very good, but at least he looks like a Wildling with that beard he is rocking.
