George Takei, Power Rangers suit up for Comic Con

Fans, celebrities, artists gather for geek culture

One of the city's biggest comic book conventions, The Great Philadelphia Comic Con, is rolling into town April 3 through April 5. Celebrities and fans of "geek culture," from comic books to sci-fi movies to kids TV shows will descend upon the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, Pennsylvania, for the three-day event.

The full event schedule has yet to be announced, but the guest and artist list is shaping up nicely. Most notably, "Star Trek" star and popular sci-fi personality George Takei will make an appearance on Saturday. His co-stars Nichelle Nichols and Walter Koenig will also make appearances during the weekend.

Actor Christy Carlson Romano, known for starring on Disney's "Even Stevens" and as the voice of "Kim Possible" will attend, as will star of "The Walking Dead" and "The Wire," Seth Gilliam, among others.

The Comic Con will also host a huge reunion for the original cast of the "Might Morphin Power Rangers." Austin St. John, who played the Red Ranger, Blue Ranger David Yost, Yellow Ranger Karan Ashley and Black Ranger Walter E. Jones will appear in what is sure to be a nostalgic moment for many. Even Barbara Goodson, who played Rita Repulsa, Kerrigan Mahan who played Goldar, and David Fielding who played Zordon, will join the reunion.

Others on the guest list include Jeff Shultz of Archie Comics, influential artist Jim Steranko, artist Mark Morales and prop master Ken Palkow. Of course, a Comic Con wouldn't be complete without a cosplay contest. Stay tuned to the GPCC website for details on the contest.
