Season two of True Detective premieres June 21 on HBO

If season two of HBO's 'True Detective' is anything like season one's haunting search for a seemingly possessed Louisiana killer, we can expect plenty of action and intellectual ruthlessness to accompany the unraveling of the mystery this time around.

The second season of writer and creator Nick Pizzolatto's crime drama, starring Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, Rachel McAdams, and Taylor Kitsch, is said to center around a California murder that unites three law-enforcement officers and a career criminal.

Pizzolatto has also suggested the new season will feature "hard women, bad men and the secret occult history of the United States transportation system."

With a June 21 premiere date fast approaching, HBO has released a second trailer for the upcoming season.

And here's the first trailer released last month:

If you're new to the show, it's worth getting on board. Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, stars in the shifting chronology of season one, were both nominated for Emmy's and Golden Globes for their performances in a series that looks to be carving out a new identity in the genre.
