An excessive heat warning remains in effect for most of Thursday, with thunderstorms likely in the afternoon and evening, according to the National Weather Service.
The warning is in effect until 6 p.m. for New Castle, Mercer, Gloucester, Camden, Burlington, Delaware, Philadelphia, Chester, Montgomery and Lower Bucks counties.
Heat index values could reach 100 degrees in the afternoon, especially in urban areas.
Some showers and thunderstorms are expected in the afternoon and evening, which will provide some cooling.
Temperatures are likely to remain in the 90s into next week, however, it is expected to be less humid on Friday and into the weekend.
Thursday: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 4 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 90. Southwest wind 8 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Thursday night: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 11 p.m. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 72. Southwest wind 6 to 8 mph becoming west after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Friday: Sunny, with a high near 91. West wind 7 to 10 mph.
Friday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 69. Southwest wind around 6 mph.
