Industrial accident traps worker in paper bail at Philly warehouse

Victim listed in stable condition after suffering right leg injury

An industrial laborer is recovering Thursday after he became trapped in a paper bail at a warehouse in the Tacony section of Philadelphia.

The incident occurred around 11:35 a.m. at the Newman Paper Recycling Plant on the 6100 block of Tacony Street, according to 6 ABC.

The 35-year-old victim, who has not been identified, became trapped beneath the paper bail while operating the machine, injuring his right leg.

According to NBC 10, Philadelphia firefighters and medics responded to the scene and freed the man from the machine before transporting him to a nearby hospital. He was listed in stable condition.

Newman & Company, based in Philadelphia for over 90 years, produces more than 70,000 tons of paperboard annually for products ranging from paper boxes, game boards and puzzles to book covers and tablets. The company did not provide a statement on the incident.
