Thomas Jefferson University's new learning platform is so successful, school officials have decided to market it.

The university has entered a licensing agreement with Pennsylvania app development company Digital Wave for iCE, a learning management system optimized for iPads.

With iCE, professors can complement course content with multimedia graphics to help their students learn, the Philadelphia Business Journal reported Monday.

When the University developed the system, it never expected that a company would be interested in marketing it.

"We had no idea this was going to happen," said Martha Ankeny, Director of Learning Initiatives, to the Business Journal. "We started showing it to colleagues at other institutions and they asked, 'This is great, how are we going to get it?'"

Now, Digital Wave plans to update the product and market it to other colleges. Jefferson will get 20 percent of future sales.
