Sicklerville man sentenced to prison for shooting 11-year-old daughter

Girl, now paralyzed, was present at the sentencing

A man who shot his daughter, paralyzing her, has been sentenced to 60 years in prison.

Sicklerville, New Jersey, resident Byaer Johnson, 28, was sentenced Monday after being convicted in June by a jury for a first-degree murder attempt and related charges.

According to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office, Johnson entered the home of the then-11-year-old girl's mother in January 2013.

Johnson said, “Allah Akbar - We all must die," and shot the girl in the face at close range.

The girl's stepfather wrestled Johnson to the ground after the gun was pointed at him, disarming him.

The unidentified stepfather, 28, shot Johnson in the buttocks after disarming him, according to a CBS Philly report at the time of the incident. Johnson fled and was later captured by police.

The daughter is now bound to a wheelchair due to her paralysis. She was present at the sentencing and testified against her father during court proceedings.

Johnson received a 50-year sentence for the attempted murder charge and 10 years for a weapons offense. He will not be eligible for parole for 47 years and six months.
