Maurice Tavares, 26, who is also known as Maurice Robinson, charged in shooting.

The man police were searching for in connection with a shooting inside a Philadelphia park basketball gym Saturday turned himself into police Monday, the department said.

Maurice Tavares, 26, who also goes by Maurice Robinson, is facing charges ranging from aggravated assault to recklessly endangering another person. His address is listed in Yeadon, Pennsylvania.

No one was injured by the single shot police say was fired.

The incident occurred during a basketball game at Christy Park’s recreation center on 728 S. 55th Street on Saturday. A witness said Tavares got in an argument with a spectator and when the 45-year-old coach of the home team tried to calm the exchange, Tavares started swearing at him, police said.

The spectator said something else to Tavares who replied “shut up” before instructing the Christy coach to return to his side of the gym.

As “the defendant removed a gun from his waistband, as he was moving backward toward the exit door, and fired one shot,” police said.

The gunshot sent screaming spectators fleeing.
