Mike Birbiglia, the writer, director and star of "Don't Think Twice," poses at the premiere of the film during the Los Angeles Film Festival at the ArcLight Culver City on Monday, June 6, 2016, in Culver City, California.

Fresh off the release of his well-received indie comedy film "Don't Think Twice," standup comedian Mike Birbiglia has added two tour dates in Philadelphia.

Birbiglia said on Twitter Thursday afternoon that he was coming to Philadelphia in April. Birbiglia is working on a new hour of standup, and the Philly shows will be part of working out his new material before filming his new Netflix special, "Thank God For Jokes."

"Thank God For Jokes" will be his first comedy special since "My Girlfriend's Boyfriend," which came out in 2013. The 38-year-old Massachusetts native has spent the past four years carving out a place in the film industry, writing and directing "Sleepwalk with Me," which is based on Birbiglia's life, and "Don't Think Twice," which hit theaters last year.

Birbiglia's Philadelphia shows will be at the Helium Comedy Club. He'll do two shows each on Friday, April 14, and Saturday, April 15.
