Montgomery County 9-1-1 restored after interruptions caused by cut communications line

UPDATE, 2:30 p.m., Friday: Montgomery County officials announced Friday that 911 service has been fully restored since about 5:20 a.m.


Authorities in Montgomery County on Thursday afternoon reported an issue with some calls to 9-1-1 from landlines.

The county's Department of Public Safety said some callers are receiving a busy signal. The issue is resulting from a cable providing phone service in the area of the Emergency Communications Center was cut.

Just before 5 p.m. Thursday, officials released a statement saying it will take at least several hours to fully restore landline phone service. Phone company crews are working to determine the location of the severed cable and make repairs.

They advised people who are making a 9-1-1 call from your home phone and and get a busy signal, to attempt to make the call again until a telecommunicator answers.

Cell phone service is not affected. Emergency calls or text messages made from cell phones are being answered as usual.

The county said it will provide updates on the situation.
