New Jersey firefighter allegedly called in false alarms

A volunteer firefighter in central New Jersey has been accused of calling in a number of false alarms, according to an Associated Press report on CBSPhilly.

Justin Tran, 18, of South Plainfield, has been charged with 14 counts of causing public alarm.

Tran was a member of Arbor Hose Company #1 in Piscataway.

According to authorities, the firefighter made numerous calls reporting suspicious odors and smoke conditions. The calls proved unfounded.

In addition, Tran is accused of reporting a small fire in a park, which a police officer extinguished before the fire company arrived.

Police said Tran may have called in the false alarms because he wanted more experience responding to emergencies.
