N.J. woman, granddaughter go missing on way to North Carolina

Authorities are searching for a 71-year-old Mays Landing woman and her granddaughter who were reported missing by family members who were expecting them to arrive in North Carolina for Christmas.

Officials said Barbara Briley was traveling with her 5-year-old granddaughter LaMyer on Saturday morning and had last been heard from that night in Ruther Glen, Virginia, according to NJ.com. They were reported missing by several concerned family members who contacted law enforcement officials to initiate a search.

The search has thus far attempted to coordinate with the Briley's cell phone provider to determine whether they can locate her phone. Calls placed to Briley have gone straight to voicemail.

Family members said Briley was familiar with the trip and would not have been expected to have trouble arriving in North Carolina.

Briley drove a silver Toyota RAV 4 with a New Jersey license plate of C80-ELS. She is described as 5'5" and 215 pounds. LaMyer Briley was last seen wearing gray sweatpants and a gray camouflage hoodie.
