Police shoot man carrying a gun in West Philly

Police said suspect pointed revolver at officers

An unidentified man is in stable condition at a local hospital after being shot three times by Philadelphia police, officials said.

The police-involved shooting occurred at 10:59 a.m. Thursday at 54th and Hazelhurst streets after officers responded to a report of a person with a gun.

When patrolmen arrived, they found two males, and at least one had a gun, said Officer Leeloni Palmiero, a spokeswoman with the department.

“One of the males turned around and pulled a revolved” toward police, Palmiero said.

Officers then fired.

No officers were injured, Palmiero said, but the suspect was struck once in the shoulder and twice in the right arm and is now in stable condition at Presbyterian hospital. Police are still searching for the second man.

Authorities recovered the revolver from the scene, Palmiero said.
