"Le Corsaire" whisks audiences away on a journey of love, betrayal and adventure.
The Pennsylvania Ballet will perform an adaptation of "Le Corsaire" created by artistic director Angel Corella.
“It is a famous ballet that the majority of our company has never performed," Corella stated in a press release.
"Not only is it exciting for them to learn new choreography and roles, but it will also show the strength, endurance and skills of all of our male dancers.”
Pennsylvania Ballet's "Le Corsaire" is adapted from the 1899 production by Marius Petipa.
The ballet portrays the story of Conrad, who is a pirate in search of treasure. During his quest, he falls in love with a serf girl named Medora.
When Medora is taken by a rich man named Seyd, Conrad devises a plan to rescue her. To Conrad's dismay, however, their reunion is short-lived. Seyd once again takes Medora – with intentions to marry her.
Can Conrad get his true love back, again?
Set designs by Eldar Aliev will transport audiences to the fantastical land of pirates, as Adolphe Adam’s score provides the soundtrack for all the twists and turns in the adventurous story.
