The Philadelphia School District forecasts a budget deficit of about $80 million for the 2015-2016 school year.

Philly.com reported the district's fixed costs are rising more quickly than revenue. While next school year's revenue is projected to rise $13 million, expenditures are expected to rise $100 million.

The $2.6 billion spending plan earmarks 53 percent of revenue on district-run schools, 29 percent on charter schools, 11 percent on debt service, 4 percent on out-of-district costs, and 3 percent on administrative costs.

The largest increases in spending will be $42 million for charter schools, $34 million for pensions and $5 million for debt services.
