Philadelphia tourism hires agency in China

City also has offices in India, Italy, France, Germany and the UK

The Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau has hired a marketing agency in China to act as the city’s official in-country tourism representative.

According to the Philadelphia Business Journal, about 40,000 Chinese visitors came to Philadelphia in 2013, spending $122 million.

PHLCVB - the primary sales and marketing agency for the Philadelphia Convention Center - already has tourism representation in India, Italy, France, Germany and the United Kingdom.

The China location opening is especially exciting, however, because China is the highest-spending international market for the city and the fourth-largest international feed market, according to the International Trade Administration's Office of Travel and Tourism Industries.

According to the Philadelphia Business Journal, about 40,000 Chinese visitors came to Philadelphia in 2013, spending $122 million.

The China-based agency, East West Marketing Corp., will work with tour operators to create itineraries that incorporate Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Business Journal wrote.
