The city of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program and the Phillies have joined forces on a Center City mural celebrating the history of the team.

A 3,750-square-foot Phillies-themed mural is taking form on the side of an eight-story wall at 24th and Walnut streets facing the Schuylkill River and Schuylkill Expressway.

Plans for the artwork were announced a few years back but work stalled due to issues with nearby property owners and safety, Phillies marketing director Michael Harris told CBSPhilly.

But now it’s back in business.

Scaffolding has already been set up alongside the wall, and construction of the artwork, which will be “applied like wallpaper” in 143 sections, will begin any day now, with a dedication planned for Aug. 1 over Phillies alumni weekend, CBSPhilly reported.

The artwork was created by award-winning Mural Arts Program artist and lifetime Phillies fan David McShane through a partnership with the city of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program and the Phillies.

McShane also created the baseball-themed murals "Tribute to Jackie Robinson" in North Philadelphia and "Philadelphia Stars: A Tribute to Negro League Baseball" in West Philadelphia.
