Old City to celebrate Ben Franklin's legacy on 311th birthday

This year, on Jan. 17, Benjamin Franklin would have turned 311. The weekend before his birthday, Philly will honor the Founding Father with a series of family-friendly activities.

Saturday, Jan. 14, a Benjamin Franklin impersonator will be at the Independence Visitor Center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to answer questions and take photos.

Families can also gather around the Once Upon A Nation Storytelling Bench in the Visitor Center to learn about Franklin's life.

Those who want a more hands-on learning experience can visit the Benjamin Franklin Museum. Admission is free on Monday, Jan. 16.

The biggest event leading up to Franklin's birthday, however, is on Friday, Jan. 13. There will be a public procession to Franklin's final resting place at Christ Church Burial Ground. The procession will begin at the American Philosophical Society (431 Chestnut St.) at 11:15 a.m.
