Philly restaurant job growth follows national trend

Pa. has the sixth-largest restaurant workforce in the nation

Philly's restaurant scene is seeing a spurt in job growth — matching a national trend — according to a Philadelphia Business Journal report on Monday.

The restaurant industry led the nation in job growth in February, adding around 59,000 jobs, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics. A Philadelphia restaurant management firm with clients such as Di Bruno Bros. and the Dave Magrogan Group — which owns Kildare's Irish Pub — confirmed the trend in the city.
"We are busy with new job orders for managers in all of our markets," said Marty Tarabar, franchise partner at Gecko Hospitality. "Our clients are adding the extra manager they have been holding off on to gear up for an expected increase in business."

Tarabar said there's currently a high demand for management positions in particular.

Pennsylvania has the sixth-largest restaurant workforce in the nation — and that number is projected to grow by 4 percent in the next 10 years.
