While the race for Amazon’s second headquarters remains a mystery for Philly and other tax-incentive-happy cities, tech jobs are on the rise in Philadelphia regardless, according to a new report from Robert Half Technology.
Though San Diego, New York, and Atlanta lead the list of top tech job producers in the country, Philadelphia still worked its way into the top 10, falling at No. 7 in the IT Hiring Forecast and Local Trend Report for 2018.

Twenty-four percent of Philadelphia tech employers said they will add new full-time staff members next year, marking a 7 percent increase from 2017 projections.
“CIOs in Philadelphia are already thinking about the future when it comes to adding new team members and getting new projects off the ground,” said Maria Incollingo, division director for Robert Half Technology in Philadelphia, in a statement.
“We are seeing increased demand for developers, information security professionals and, in particular, skilled network and telecommunication candidates who can help with upgrading hardware and software across the organization.”
Despite the growing demand for Philly tech work, however, it can be difficult for smaller companies in the city to compete in terms of salary. Flexible office culture, like company outings, bonuses, and the option to work remotely, however, help lure employees despite salary comparisons.
“The pressure to complete mission-critical projects is increasing and CIOs in Philadelphia looking to add to their teams should make strong and competitive offers to candidates who possess the skills their company needs,” Incollingo said.
“Leaders who don’t put their best offer on the table first risk losing top talent to a competitor.”
