Home Depot is one of several national stores that is dog friendly.

Pet lovers know how hard it is to leave their furry friends at home, especially for long periods of time.

Why not take Fido with you? You might be surprised how many businesses in Philadelphia, and across the nation, allow pets.

DogFriendly.com provides a comprehensive list of pet-friendly hotels, restaurants, stores, parks and other attractions in Philadelphia.

Take your pet shopping at Anthropologie, Gap or Urban Outfitters. Or grab a cup of coffee at 1 Shot Coffee at 1040 N. 2nd St. See the full list.

BarkPost lists 19 national stores that are dog-friendly. Among them are Lowe's, Home Depot and Bloomingdale's.

Note: Ultimately, each store's manager has the final say on whether the store allows pets. You may want to call ahead to confirm a specific store's pet policy.

Better yet, send your pet to the store for you.
