15th Street in Center City reopens; devices not so suspicious

A suspicious device sits atop the standpipe near the intersection of 15th and Walnut Streets.

UPDATE: 3:50 p.m., Thursday: Police tell PhillyVoice that the two devices were misplaced hard drives. They were claimed by a tenant in the building at 15th and Walnut, who apparently did not know the devices were left outside the building, according to an officer on scene. The roadway has been reopened.

Police have blocked 15th Street between Sansom and Walnut streets in Center City to investigate a suspicious item outside the AT&T store.

A police bomb squad is en route to the scene to investigate two rectangular black boxes sitting atop a stand pipe along the 15th Street sidewalk, just off Walnut Street, according to an officer at the scene.

Traffic is being directed onto Sansom Street from 15th.
