Police: Suspected DUI driver strikes, kills man in Delaware

Suspect fled scene of crash in Odessa before he was apprehended by authorities

Police in Delaware arrested and charged a suspected DUI driver after he struck and killed a man in Odessa on Saturday afternoon.

According to police, the incident occurred around 2 a.m. when the driver, 40-year-old Shawn Russell, struck the unidentified 43-year-old victim on Dupont Parkway near Middletown-Odessa Road, CBS 3 reports.

Authorities say the victim was walking in the road when Russell Struck him with his Chevrolet Suburban. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Russell initially fled the scene but was later stopped by police, who have charged him with driving under the influence, fleeing the scene of a fatal motor vehicle crash and other offenses.

The accident resulted in a road closure lasting more than three hours as the wreckage was cleared and investigators inspected the scene of the crash.
