Police: Man brandishes syringe during robbery in North Philadelphia

Police are asking the public for help Monday identifying a man wanted for a convenience store robbery in North Philadelphia.

The incident occurred Thursday around 7 p.m. at Family Grocery Store located at 230 West Wensley Street.

Authorities say the suspect entered the store, took merchandise off the shelf and hid the items in his waist area. When an employee confronted the suspect, he pulled out a syringe and threatened the employee. The suspect then stole eight boxes of cigarettes before fleeing the area.

The suspect is described as a 5-foot-8 Hispanic man in his early 30s with a scruffy beard. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, a blue jacket and gray sweatpants.
