Police: One killed, another injured in South Philadelphia crash

An overnight crash in South Philadelphia left one person dead and another injured on Christmas, according to media reports.

The collision occurred Sunday around 1:30 a.m. near the intersection of Washington Avenue and Broad Street.

Police said a man operating a Honda Accord ran a red light and struck a Kia, FOX29 reports. The Honda came to rest on the sidewalk in the crash, which also destroyed a traffic pole and a fire hydrant.

According to NBC10, the driver the Honda was a 70-year-old man, who died about six hours later. The Kia's driver, a 32-year-old man, was transported to Jefferson University Hospital where he is in stable condition.

Police have not identified anyone who was involved in the crash. An investigation is ongoing.
