The Pennsylvania SPCA and Chester police are investigating after two dogs were ruthlessly burned to death Saturday night in an alleyway.

According to authorities, the two dogs charred remains were found inside a plastic container around 8 p.m. in an alley near the 2800 block of West 6th Street, according to CBS 3

Officials said all signs indicate the dogs were deliberately set on fire. The incident was described as one of the most sickening displays of animal cruelty in recent memory.

According to an Associated Press report by the Delco Times, the Pennsylvania-based nonprofit Justice Rescue has raised the amount of a reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction from $1,000 to $3,000.

The AP said the group will also fund the forensic tests to help determine the animals cause of death.
