Report: Boater discovers body in Delaware River in South Philly

Police send decomposed remains to Medical Examiner's office

Philadelphia police are investigating after a boater discovered a body in the Delaware River Saturday night in South Philadelphia.

According to NBC10, the boater located the body around 7 p.m. while taking a joy ride on the river. He immediately called 911 and the Police Marine Unit was sent to the scene.

When police removed the body from the river, they found it was severely decomposed. The race and gender of the victim were not immediately clear.

The body has been taken to the Medical Examiner's officer for further evaluation.

An investigation is ongoing.
