Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Fletcher Cox is reportedly in the crosshairs following a lawsuit from a North Carolina man who claims Cox has penetrated the loving relationship he once had with his wife.
Joshua Jeffords, the plaintiff in question, is reportedly suing Cox for over $25,000. Jeffords told TMZ that Cox allegedly put the moves on his wife while she was in Pennsylvania for what was deemed a "work trip" this past April. Since then, the two have allegedly corresponded through text and Snapchat – and Jeffords claims those messages included a photo of Fletcher's Cox.
The suit itself is over what the state of North Carolina calls "alienation of affection." Jeffords can only win the case if he can prove he and his spouse had a genuine loving connection that was destroyed, and if it was destroyed by "malicious acts." Proof of sexual intercourse can be considered malicious, by way of the law.
TMZ has screenshots that they claim are from an exchange between Cox and Jeffords' wife, and they raise more questions than answers. It appears the woman in question says she's a bartender, which prompts one to ask what a North Carolina based bartender needed to take a "work trip" to Pennsylvania for. There's also a message in which Cox appears to admit to wanting to impregnate the woman in question, which by itself is rather puzzling. I don't know many professional athletes who would openly admit to a stranger that they'd want to impregnate them, as the potential downsides are pretty obvious.
Nevertheless, this story has been thrust upon us. PhillyVoice has reached out to the Eagles' media relations department and will update this story accordingly as we learn more.
