The intersection of Taunton and Hargrave Streets in Northeast Philadelphia.

Philadelphia police are investigating after an off-duty officer shot a 19-year-old family member Monday night in Northeast Philadelphia.

After a preliminary investigation, police Lt. John Stanford said the shooting occurred around 6:30 p.m. on the 2700 block of Taunton Street. The unidentified off-duty officer, assigned to the 15th District, was armed with an off-duty weapon and fired two shots at the victim after a verbal dispute became physical. 

The teen, who was struck once in the torso, was transported to Aria Torresdale Hospital where he was listed in critical but stable condition.

The off-duty officer was transported to Internal Affairs and two witnesses were taken to Northeast Detectives to be interviewed. 

Police said the investigation is very active and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
