“Risk! Live” offers storytelling with an edge

Kevin Allison's Risk!

Since his days with legendary comedy group The State, Kevin Allison has made a niche for himself in the storytelling scene. It’s comedy adjacent, sure — his Risk! Live shows and podcasts are often funny and sometimes shocking — but the stories are all true. If storytelling has a distinct advantage over comedy, that’s it.

Even for a storytelling series, Risk! is kinda risky, the premise being people telling “true stories they never thought they’d dare to share in public.” Listen to this best-of episode to see how people take it. This Friday’s appearance at Underground Arts features stories by Tom Brennan, Kristie Evans, David Montgomery and Pamela Latta.

FYI, that’s David Montgomery, host of the “2 Gays, No Girls, At A Pizza Place” podcast — not the chairman of the Phillies (unless they’re both the same person). Brennan is a comic book editor. Latta is a retired doctor and yacht delivery person. Evans is an ex-cop. Not sure what to expect from such a diverse lineup. Which is kind of the point.
