The 36th Annual Blue Cross Broad Street Run kicked off Sunday  at 8 a.m. when thousands of racers started their way South for the 10 mile trek.

The first runner to cross the finish line was male winner Haile Mengesha, while the female winner was Tigist Jabore. According to Philly.com, Mengasha is a 29-year-old from New York City and finished the race with an unofficial time of 47 minutes and 53 seconds. Jabore, from Silver Spring, Maryland, finished with an unofficial time of 53 minutes and 33 seconds.

The weather was warm and sunny for the event, and spectators as well as participants tweeted out pictures all morning of the festivities. Here's a look at some of the best scenes from the race.
