A Temple student has launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for her family after their home in North Philadelphia caught fire, causing them to lose all of their belongings.

A Temple University student has launched a GoFundMe page after her family members lost their home and possessions in a North Philadelphia fire on Feb. 11.

"North Philadelphia is Owl Country and it’s important for us students to want to give back to the community that welcomed us and the place that we call home." – Aiyana Amariah Mobley, of her GoFundMe

Aiyana Amariah Mobley, a senior at the university, told The Tab at Temple that she and her family, including her mother and two younger siblings, are currently living in hotels while they attempt to figure out a permanent housing solution.

The cause of the fire appears to be an electric issue based on a preliminary investigation, Mobley said.

She said she started the GoFundMe hoping the Temple University community would see her family's need as a way to give back to the local neighborhood, which envelops and embraces the school.

"North Philadelphia is Owl Country and it’s important for us students to want to give back to the community that welcomed us and the place that we call home," she said. "I just hope that the message of giving back to the community will inspire others to want to give back to us."

As of Wednesday, the GoFundMe site has collected about $3,700 of Mobley’s $20,000 goal.
